Character Name: Greed

Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (manga/brotherhood)

AU/OC/Previous Game: N/A

Age: 200+

Appearance: He appears 18-19, though his physical body is 16ish. Average height with a lean but well-muscled build. His hair is black and he wears it pulled back in a ponytail with bangs that hang over one side of his face. His eyes are red and slitted, his teeth are sharp like a shark’s, and there is a red ouroboros tattoo on the back of his left hand. He wears black clothes with a long black jacket.

When using his Ultimate Shield, Greed’s skin becomes hard and blackish-blue. When covering his face/entire body he takes on a mildly more monsterlike appearance with large fangs and no hair. There are also red lines that run along his torso and head in this form.

Cause of Death: Sacrificed himself to save Ling from being absorbed by Father, then Father tore him out his body and he… disintegrated… it’s his canon death I promise it makes sense in context shh.

Impact of Death: That he died won’t be a shock, as he’d made peace with himself right before it happened. Waking up again will be more surprising. I imagine he’ll be a little unsure about this whole Thusia thing as he gets his bearings and figures out what he’s going to do now that he’s dead but not dead, especially since his priorities changed pretty drastically right before he basically martyred himself.

Character Info: Greed is a homunculus, an artificial human created through alchemy. His physical makeup is technically the same as a human's, but his body also contains a philosopher's stone, a stone of pure energy created through the compression of human souls. He's one of seven homunculi, each named for one of the seven deadly sins. He was "created" by the head honcho homunculus who all the other homunculi call Father, who created them by 'severing' the seven deadly sins of man from himself so he could transcend humanity blah blah etc. Anyway, Father had this whole plot that would take years and years and lots of bloodshed to carry out, and treated the homunculi as underlings-slash-children to carry out said plotting. Greed was the only one who went fuck that shit I'm outtie, and defected early on to do his own thing, roughly 200 years prior to the start of canon.

As the only homunculus who isn't unquestioningly obedient to Father, that already sets Greed apart as something of a special snowflake. At the core of it, his reason for defecting is very simple- he wants to be the one giving the orders, not taking them. As a supposed incarnation of avarice, namely of the avarice of a guy who wants to swallow god, Greed desires everything. He's proud of it too, and it's easy to get him boasting about how greedy he is. On top of that, he's a show-off; he's sexy powerful and he knows it, and if there's a chance to show it off in a dramatic fashion, then hells yeah. If there's at least one aspect in which he's (somewhat) similar to the other homunculi, he feels that he's superior to humans. But even that loses some of its meaning since he feels like he's superior to everyone anyway. Everything and everyone belongs to him, after all.

When I use the word superior, that's not to say that he's completely arrogant or self-entitled. He may be flippant and view himself as head honcho, but (unlike the other homunculi) he doesn't treat everyone else as insignificant vermin. He gives respect where he feels it's due, basing his judgements on a person's actions and merit, not what race/species/etc they are. In this way, he has his own personal honor code of sorts. For example, he never lies and he prefers not to fight women. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty when it comes to fighting and killing, but he's not big into unnecessary conflict and death either. Still, he enjoys a good fight.

Greed's concept of 'possessions' when it comes to people is a tricky thing, but it's a significant part of the way his mind works. The way he uses the word, it would be more synonymous with followers. Of course he protects things that belong to him (like a man would his possessions), but it's in the same way any good leader would protect and support their followers. When Ed agreed to follow him, he didn't just order him around, he was also concerned about keeping his automail in good condition. If you asked him, though, he'd say it's just because Ed wouldn't be much use to him if his automail gives out. Going a little deeper, however, his possessions are often his friends, or become his friends. Greed believes through most of canon that in order to fill the empty void he's always felt since he was born, he wants absolute power and to rule the world. It isn't until the Promised Day when he sees Ed fighting Father and the way everyone cheers him on that he realizes just how alone he is. He accepted that what he really wanted were friends who would support him that way too. At this point a key part of his personality changed, which manifested itself in a bout of selflessness- you could even say he became more human. However, it was short-lived; shortly after his realization he sacrificed himself to save Ling and weaken Father to the point where Ed could defeat him.

BUT since Greed is going to be living past that point now, that means he might be a little different than before. His possessiveness isn’t likely to go away just like that, but he’ll start prioritizing friends over material wealth or raising himself to a position of power for his own sake. It isn’t something set in stone since he died right after this point in canon, but I think it’s a safe bet to say his personality will be mostly the same at its core, just with different priorities and some potential areas of change that could be developed as he lives his afterlife in Thusia.

Abilities (after Powercap):  He’ll have two abilities affected, his “Ultimate Shield” and his insta-regeneration.

His shielding will still be essentially impenetrable, but forming it is more draining. The more of his body is covered, the more it takes out of him to form/maintain it. Forming/reforming it too much in too short a time can result in fatigue and ED softer shielding.

His insta-regeneration will no longer be quite as instant. Small wounds like tiny scratches and things still heal pretty quick, but larger wounds take longer and growing back lost limbs would go preeetty slow.

Samples:

3 threads of you playing the character elsewhere.

These threads are all from Aather, so take place in a memory loss/regain setting. In some cases Greed is referred to as Prince, his Aather name.

1: Context: A game in which Greed was chained at the wrist to a stranger (potentially negative CR) and made to go through a series of tasks with him. In this task, they had to climb a huge tree. (This one pushes the 15 comment minimum, but I feel it’s a good thread to show how Greed balances competition with winning.) Link: here

2. Context: A game in which Greed and Ling were locked up together in a cell and had to make an offering of some kind in the hopes it would be enough to buy their lives. In the case that it wasn’t enough, they had to choose one or the other to die. Link: here

3. Context: Ling had just returned from being spirited away for a little while by a Persona. There’s some discussion about that but the thread is mostly the two of them derping around. Link: here
